Bayern Munich face Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg in Munich. Real Madrid sit at the top of La Liga, whilst Tuchel is unbeaten in semi-finals.

Match Overview

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich were victorious against the "angstgegner" (bogey team) of recent times in Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday in the Bundesliga thanks to a Harry Kane brace in Munich.

Kane, who has scored thirty-five goals this season in the Bundesliga, is Bayern Munich's top scorer by some distance and is only six goals off Robert Lewandowski's record for most goals in a single campaign in Germany's top flight.

In the Champions League, Bayern Munich were knocked out the last two times they faced Real Madrid in the semi-final (2013-14 and 2017-18).

The last time Bayern Munich made it into the Champions League semi-final they went all the way to the final, winning the 2019-20 edition with wins against French sides Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final and the final.

Ahead of the huge semi-final clash, Bayern Munich's head coach Thomas Tuchel said: "Everyone's looking forward to a great game. We faced Real twice with Chelsea, also previously with PSG and Dortmund. The most notable difference from the last game with Chelsea is that Karim Benzema is gone."

Real Madrid

Real Madrid won on Friday against Real Sociedad in La Liga, after teenager Ardu Güler scored his second league goal this season as Los Blancos won one-nil.

Carlo Ancelotti will be wary that his side faltered at this same stage of the Champions League last time out, losing against Manchester City over two legs.

Jude Bellingham will want to relight some of the "Der Klassiker" passion against his old rivals Bayern Munich. In his debut season in Spain's top division, he has netted a huge seventeen goals from midfield.

Real Madrid have reached the semi-final stage in eight of their last ten appearances in the Champions League, winning on five of these occasions.

Team News

Bayern Munich

Sacha Boey is out for the hosts on Tuesday and both Bouna Sarr and Kingsley Coman will also both be unavailable. Tarek Buchmann has a thigh injury so will also not be up for selection for Thomas Tuchel.

There are multiple doubts in terms of players for the midweek tie: Leroy Sané has a pelvis issue, Matthijs De Ligt is a doubt with a knee issue and both Konrad Laimer and Dayot Upamecano are also doubtful.

Real Madrid

For Real Madrid, Thibaut Courtois is out with a knee injury and Dani Carvajal will also miss the game with suspension following his yellow card against Manchester City.

David Alaba will miss the game against his old club also due to a knee issue.
